Special commodity levy on rice and onions falls

The government has reduced the special commodity levy on imported onions and rice.

The Special Commodity Levy of Rs. 65 per 1kg of rice has been dropped to Rs. 1. This will be in place until the third of April.

The President also ordered that the tax levied on other imported onions, such as Rose Onions, be slashed to 10 rupees per kilogram until the end of next month.

President Ranil Wickremesinghe issued the order under the powers vested in him under the Special Commodity Levy Act.
