Former minister comments on presidential election

Opposition MP Patali Champika Ranawaka says he will accept an invitation to contest Sri Lanka’s upcoming presidential election from a newly formed alliance.

Ranawaka said he is confident of his capacity to run the country.

The MP told reporters that a future alliance “will decide who should contest the parliamentary and presidential elections.”

Ranawaka is widely seen as harboring ambitions of national leadership.

He recently left the SJB on whose ticket he contested and won the 2020 parliamentary election.
