Officials Complete Urban Sustainability Training for ‘Clean Sri Lanka’

Forty senior Sri Lankan civil servants took part in a capacity-building program at India’s National Centre for Good Governance (NCGG) from Sept. 22 to Oct. 3.

The program, titled “Clean Cities, Better Future: Transforming Urban Sri Lanka with Regional Practices,” focused on promoting sustainable urban management.

It aligns with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s *Clean Sri Lanka* initiative and India’s ‘Swachhata Hi Seva 2025’ campaign under the Swachh Bharat Mission.

The program featured expert-led sessions on urban planning, municipal governance, public-private partnerships, and solid waste management, with an emphasis on plastic recycling, digital transformation, and urban transport.

Participants also undertook field visits to observe best practices in action, including the Tehkhand Waste-to-Energy Project, the Delhi Metro Rail Project, the National Institute of Urban Affairs, the Mussoorie–Dehradun Development Authority, and the Integrated Tribal Development Agency.

This was the fifth program conducted under the Memorandum of Understanding signed in December 2024 between NCGG and the Sri Lanka Institute of Development Administration, which aims to train 1,500 Sri Lankan civil servants over five years.

With this cohort, the total number of officers trained has reached 201.

Following strong feedback and a request from the Government of Sri Lanka, the sixth program will continue with the same theme and train an additional 40 officers.
