Budget debate begins on Saturday

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has presented the Budget 2026 to Parliament in his capacity as the Minister of Finance.

The debate on the Second Reading of the Appropriation Bill for 2026 is scheduled to take place over six days, from Nov. 8 to Nov. 14.

Thereafter, the vote on the Second Reading of the Budget will be taken on Nov. 14 at 6 p.m.

Subsequently, the Committee Stage debate on the Appropriation Bill for 2026 is scheduled to run for 17 days, including three Saturdays, from Nov. 15 to Dec. 5.

Following that, the vote on the Third Reading of the Appropriation Bill will be held on Dec. 5 at 6 p.m.

Accordingly, the entire Budget debate is scheduled to be held from Nov. 8 to Dec. 5, 2025.
