Canadian envoy hands over aid packages

Emergency Humanitarian Assistance Reaches 120 Women with Disabilities in Vavuniya

 

Under the Emergency Humanitarian Assistance initiative, 120 women-headed households across four Divisional Secretariat divisions in the Vavuniya District received essential relief support.

Each family was provided with a package valued at LKR 35,000, containing dry rations, household essentials, and hygiene items.

The project was funded by the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives and implemented by the Organization for Rehabilitation of Handicapped Association North.

Inaugural Distribution Event

The first distribution was held on Jan. 28, 2026, at the Vavuniya North Nedunkeni Divisional Secretariat.

The event was presided over by Divisional Secretary Mrs. Kalanjali Darshana Arunasahanta.

Her Excellency Isabelle Martin, High Commissioner of Canada to Sri Lanka and the Maldives, attended the ceremony and personally handed over the assistance packages to the beneficiaries.

Beneficiary Distribution by Division

• Vavuniya North (Nedunkeni): * 40 women

• Vavuniya Town:* 30 women

• Vengalacheddikulam:* 30 women

• Vavuniya South:* 20 women

A total of 120 families led by women with disabilities directly benefited from this targeted humanitarian intervention.
