Broad gains lift Lanka shares higher
Sri Lankan shares closed higher on Wednesday, snapping a five-day losing streak, led by broad-based gains.
The CSE All-Share index settled 1.09% higher at 20,640.63 points.
Sri Lanka’s economy grew 5% year-on-year in 2025, driven by strong industrial activity.
Alpha Fire Services and Kapruka Holdings were the top percentage gainers on the index, up 24.3% and 20.42%, respectively, on the day.
Trading volume on the index slightly fell to 216.3 million shares from 273.8 million shares in the previous session.
The equity market’s turnover rose to 5.27 billion Sri Lankan rupees ($16.93 million) from 5.03 billion rupees in the previous session, according to exchange data.
Foreign investors were net sellers, offloading stocks worth 296 million rupees, while domestic investors were net buyers, purchasing shares worth 5.17 billion rupees, the data showed.
