Spectacles Program for University Students

Free Spectacles Program for University Students Funded by the President’s Fund Begins at Rajarata University

• Program to be extended to all universities in the future

• Senior Additional Secretary to the President and Secretary to the President’s Fund Roshan Gamage

The first program under the initiative to provide free spectacles and hearing aids to university students through the President’s Fund was held throughout the day today (19) at Rajarata University.

The private-sector-supported program also provided free eye examinations and prescription lenses.

Meanwhile, plans are also underway to distribute free spectacle frames donated to the President’s Fund to schoolchildren, university students, technical college students, and low-income citizens.

Speaking on the occasion, Senior Additional Secretary to the President and Secretary to the President’s Fund Roshan Gamage said that the President and the Government are committed to ensuring that all children in the country have access to education without barriers, adding that the program is expected to be extended to all universities in the future.

Mr Gamage noted that the benefits of the President’s Fund are currently reaching children across the country and all those eligible to receive its assistance. He also said that, thanks a sound management, the President’s Fund has grown by 50% over the past two years.

Mr Gamage also expressed his appreciation to everyone who contributed to the program providing spectacles and hearing aids to university students.

Senior Assistant Registrar of the Rajarata University (Student Services) D. M. Jayakody, along with representatives of the sponsoring organizations and several others, was also present.
