Mano Ganesan Seeks Urgent Meeting with President on Ditwah-Hit Plantation Communities
Mano Ganesan, Member of Parliament and Leader of the Tamil Progressive Alliance, has written to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake seeking an urgent meeting to address the specific post-disaster challenges facing the Malaiyaha Sri Lankan community following the recent Ditwa disaster.
In the letter addressed to the President at the Presidential Secretariat, Ganesan commended the President’s “decisive leadership during this exceptionally challenging period of national crisis.”
The MP noted that residents of hilly regions, particularly in Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Badulla, Matale, and surrounding areas, have been among the most affected by the disaster.
Ganesan emphasized that the Malaiyaha community, which continues to show comparatively low—and in some sectors negative—human development indicators in areas such as land ownership, housing, education, health, and poverty alleviation, requires “a differentiated and targeted approach” during the recovery and rebuilding phase.
The letter formally requests an urgent meeting with the President, along with political and civil representatives of the Malaiyaha community, to discuss a “coordinated, sustainable framework” to address these unique challenges.
Ganesan stated that he and the representatives remain available to coordinate with the Presidential Secretariat to arrange the logistics and timing of the meeting at the President’s convenience.

“At the outset, we wish to acknowledge and appreciate your decisive leadership during this exceptionally challenging period of national crisis.
“As you are aware, residents of the hilly regions—particularly in the districts of Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Badulla, Matale, and surrounding areas—have been among the worst affected by the recent Ditwa disaster.
“The Malaiyaha community, which continues to register comparatively low and, in some sectors, negative human development indicators—especially in land ownership, housing, education, health, and poverty alleviation, requires a differentiated and targeted approach in the recovery and rebuilding phase.
“In this context, we respectfully request an urgent meeting with Your Excellency, involving political and civil representatives of the Malaiyaha community, to deliberate on a coordinated and sustainable framework to address these unique challenges.
“We remain available to engage with your Secretariat to finalize the logistics and timing of such a meeting at your convenience.”
