Consulate organizes cleanliness drive

On International Zero Waste Day, the Consulate General of India in Jaffna organized a clean-up drive.

This was done in partnership with the Jaffna Municipal Council, Sikaram Academy, Tourism, Archaeology, and the Police Department.

Participants of the cycle rally from Aryakulam Junction, including the Consul General, Shri. Sai Murali and consulate officials cleaned the Panni (Fort) area.

This was done to promote sustainable waste management practices within the community.

Several officials attended the post-cleanliness drive function.

They highlighted the initiative’s significance.

They included Krishnendran (Jaffna Municipal Commissioner), Rushangan Kodeeswaran, founder of SIKARAM Academy and coordinator to EPDP leader Douglas Devananda, and S. Pranavanathan, commissioner of local government,

Rushangan Kodeeswaran appreciated the Consul General for the Indian government’s support.

He also expressed gratitude for India’s contributions, including the Jaffna Cultural Centre and ongoing support to the Northern Province.

In his speech, the Consul General underscored the importance of environmental protection and the zero-waste approach.

He emphasized the need for collective action.

He also highlighted the role of individual actions in preserving the environment and expressed appreciation to the organizers for their efforts.

The Consul General also planted a sapling at the park in the Fort area, further symbolizing the commitment to sustainability and community well-being.
