AstraZeneca vaccines donated by Japan arrive in Sri Lanka

COLOMBO: A stock of 728,460 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines donated by Japan under the COVAX facility arrived in Sri Lanka.

The consignments arrived from Japan on SriLankan Airlines flight UL455.

Of those, 566,357 doses of AstraZeneca will be allocated to those who have already received the first dose.

The remaining vaccines will be directed to the inoculation drive in Kegalle District.

Army Commander General Shavendra Silva said that Sri Lanka Army will begin vaccinating members of the public with the second dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

Gen. Silva requested the public not rush to the Viharamahadevi park as the Army will be vaccinating people throughout.

Meanwhile, MOH offices and Colombo Municipal Council are also expected to begin rolling out 2nd doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine from tomorrow.

Nearly 600,000 people are yet to take the 2nd dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine.
