Hard work of DMK cadre ‘will yield desired result’

Due to the hard work of the DMK cadre in the run-up to the Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, the party would secure the desired result on counting day, May 4, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin said in Chennai.

Addressing party workers on the occasion of International Workers’ Day at May Day Park, Mr. Stalin said there would be no change (in the government), and that he was not saying it on the basis of the exit polls, but because he understood the feelings of the party workers.

“The election results will be out in a couple of days, and I believe you will get good news,” the Chief Minister said.

Mr. Stalin said the State would continue to be guided by the DMK’s principle of “everything for everyone.” He noted that Chennai was the first city in India to celebrate May Day, under the leadership of labor organizer M. Singaravelar.

Recalling the Dravidian movement’s role in institutionalizing the day, he said that former Chief Minister C.N. Annadurai declared May Day a government holiday, while his successor, M. Karunanidhi, ensured it became a paid and legally recognized holiday. He added that sustained efforts by DMK leaders led to its adoption as a paid public holiday across India during the tenure of former Prime Minister V.P. Singh.

Mr. Stalin said workers’ dignity, rights, and fair compensation remain central to the government’s approach.

He also noted that the May Day memorial park in Chennai was established under Mr. Karunanidhi’s leadership, reflecting his commitment to labor welfare. Calling for continued collective effort, Mr. Stalin urged cadres and the public to work together in upholding workers’ rights.
